FAQs
How do I know if my accountant is doing a good job?
A good accountant does more than file your returns on time. They should be proactively keeping you informed about changes that affect you, making sure you're claiming everything you're entitled to, and being easy to reach when a question comes up. If you're unsure, ask yourself when you last heard from them - and compare it to the fee you are paying.
What should I expect my accountant to do throughout the year?
At a minimum, your accountant should be keeping on top of your compliance obligations, flagging upcoming deadlines well in advance, and letting you know about any changes to tax law that affect your business. A more proactive accountant will also review your tax position during the year, not just at year end, and will flag opportunities to structure things more efficiently.
Is it difficult to switch accountants?
No - and this is probably the most common misconception that keeps people with an accountant they're not happy with. The process is straightforward. You instruct your new accountant, they write to your previous accountant requesting your records, and your previous accountant is professionally obliged to provide them promptly. There's no confrontation required and no disruption to your business.
Will switching accountant affect my relationship with HMRC?
Not at all. HMRC doesn't need to be notified of a change of accountant - your new accountant simply registers as your agent and takes over from there. The transition is seamless from HMRC's perspective.
How much should I be paying for an accountant?
This varies depending on the complexity of your affairs and the level of service you need. What matters more than the headline fee is what you're getting for it. If you're paying a low fee but missing out on tax savings, proactive advice, or simply hours of your own time dealing with things yourself, the true cost may be higher than it appears. We offer transparent, fixed-fee pricing - so you always know what you're paying and what's included.
I'm an existing Facts & Figures client - can I ask for more support?
Absolutely. As your business changes, your support needs change too. If you feel like you'd benefit from more regular contact, management accounts, or more proactive tax planning, just get in touch and we'll have that conversation. There's no obligation and no awkwardness - it's exactly the kind of conversation we're here for.
